The Gateway Trail was opened with pomp and circumstance June 2 near College of the Rockies in Cranbrook.

A ribbon cutting highlighted the opening of the 1.8 km trail that leads to Sylvan Lake in the Cranbrook Community Forest.

The Dean Smith Trio performed along with a prize draw being held, an info booth about invasive plants, and a walk explaining some of the thinning project and the benefits it provided in making the community forest less of a fire hazard, as well during the Cranbrook Community Forest Society hosted event.
