Historic high in building permit activity in 2025

With less than a month left in 2025, the City of Cranbrook has reached a new high in building permit values increasing from $37 million in 2024 to just over $93 million to date in 2025 – an increase of 151% surpassing the previous building permit record set in 2020.

In a report to council on Monday night (Dec. 8), staff shared that building permit revenues have also risen significantly from $280,978 in 2024 to $1.02 million in 2025.

These results underscore strong investor confidence and position the city for continued growth, with projections indicating similar positive development activity through 2026 and 2027 in several projects with announced funding that will be progressing through the development stages in the next two years, the city noted in a media release.

Leading in construction value is the major investment in the FW Green Memorial Home with the first stage building permit being issued the first week of December.

This project highlights the variety of investments happening in Cranbrook and the cooperation happening across many sectors within the city.

With the size and number of developments currently under construction comes sustained benefit to the local economy and employment workforce, with contractors and tradespeople set up to continue working through the winter months.

A more detailed report on the final permit values for 2025 will be made available in the New Year.
