Incoming cold prompts opening of Extreme Weather Shelter
As low temperatures are forecast for the City of Cranbrook and the surrounding region, the Extreme Weather Response shelter is opening for the public at the Dwelling Place (Safe Haven), 2324 – 2nd Street South at 8 p.m.
The City of Cranbrook would like to thank the Dwelling Place for offering space within their church and for ANKORS East Kootenay for operating this much-needed shelter.
Extreme Weather Shelters save lives and help to ensure that emergency responders, businesses, and citizens are not left scrambling to try and manage the problems associated with people trying to survive in the cold.
During this cold weather, the city provides support by designating both the Cranbrook Public Library and Western Financial Place as warming centres for those who need shelter from the cold during the day.
The Cranbrook Public Library is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The library is also open 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Western Financial Place is open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily as a warming centre for the public.
