Indoor sports facility design phase completed
Kootenay East Youth Soccer Association (KEYSA) has announced the completion of the design phase for its indoor sports facility project.
“We have been working with a team of engineers, architects, and construction manager (New Dawn) for the past six months to develop the final configuration for the facility. We have submitted a Building Permit Application and look forward to realizing our fundraising goal,” KEYSA reported on Facebook March 11.
The facility will be located beside the Cranbrook Curling Centre and will provide 25,000 square feet of artificial turf, replicating field conditions for year-round use by a diversity of groups.
“We are very happy to be at this point. With design complete and application made, it feels like we are on the home stretch. The project budget has varied only slightly from our conceptual cost-estimate presented nearly three years ago. The current estimated project cost is $1,500,000.
“To date, we have been able to secure approximately $1,200,000 in funding. Our most recent success was a $50,000 grant received from the Southern Interior Development Initiative Trust. “As we look forward to beginning construction later this year, we will turn our attention to fundraising to satisfy the remaining donations required,” KEYSA outlined.
The project will require a two-month construction period and is expected to be operation in October 2020.
“We thank all who have helped contribute to this project and appreciate the community support and patience. KEYSA is a non-profit organization and as such is obligated to operate this as a non-profit facility. Funding to date has been provided entirely by grants (CBT, RDEK, SIDIT) and donations from local businesses and individuals. As was our goal at the beginning of this project, no city tax dollars have been contributed to the funds raised.”
