Input invited on updated DCCs until January 31

The City of Cranbrook is now updating its Development Cost Charges (DCC) Bylaw and wants to hear from you. This is your opportunity to share your thoughts on how Cranbrook should manage growth and who should help pay for it.

Cranbrook is growing and with growth comes the need for new and upgraded infrastructure such as roads, water systems, storm drainage, sewer, and parks. The city collects DCCs from developers and builders when new lots are created, and new buildings are constructed – new development that puts an increased demand on our infrastructure.

The new infrastructure needed for this development growth can be paid for by DCCs, existing taxpayers, or a combination of both.

Have your say by completing our survey by January 31, at 11:59 p.m.

We invite you to weigh in on questions such as:

  • Who should pay for growth between developers and builders, or the existing tax base?
  • What do you think about proposed increases to DCCs?
  • Would you be willing to pay higher taxes and utility fees (water/sewer) to reduce the DCCs paid by developers and builders (which may also lower costs for buyers)?
  • How much more in taxes and utility fees would you be willing to pay to waive DCCs for not-for-profit or affordable housing?

In the meantime, developers, and builders are invited to a virtual meeting to learn more about the proposed changes and share their input. The meeting will include a presentation and a question-and-answer session on Thursday, January 22, from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Please register in advance @ [email protected]. A meeting link will be emailed to you upon registration. This is in addition to a recent community engagement session hosted by the Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce for the local business community.
