I feel I should respond to the City of Cranbrook’s recent survey to citizens.

I started out with intention of being a good citizen and doing this survey, but stopped short when I came to the section on policing.

In it, they asked whether we felt the detachment numbers adequate, or should be increased, etc. and this is when I felt the survey was a bit of nonsense.

For years now, our detachment has not been anywhere near it’s full complement and the latest report shows they were short eight positions, so how on earth can we comment on what the appropriate staffing levels should be?

Perhaps, if they ever reach that number, we would be able to comment objectively. As a citizen who is very concerned with law and order, I’m alarmed at our detachment being so understrength and have written about this before and asked why we never hear anything from city council regarding this bad situation.

It’s as if they don’t care.  I also think that our local media has ignored this bad situation.
