Key City to celebrate new elevator with grand opening

Cranbrook’s Key City Theatre will mark a major accessibility milestone with the grand opening of its new elevator on Thursday, March 12, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The public is invited to attend this free community celebration and be part of a historic moment for the venue.

Guests will be welcomed with a complimentary drinks, gourmet treats from The Heidout and live soft jazz performed by the Dean Smith Trio. No tickets are required for entry.

“This elevator is a big step forward for Key City Theatre, and for the community we serve,” said Galen Olstead, Executive Director. “Give Us A Lift was built on the belief that everyone should be able to fully experience what happens here, whether you’re coming to a show, visiting the art gallery, volunteering your time, or visiting for the first time. On March 12, we’re proud to open the doors and celebrate this milestone together.”

The elevator project was made possible through Give Us A Lift, a Key City Theatre fundraiser focused on improving access and welcoming more patrons, performers, volunteers, and visitors into the building. The project was supported by Canadian Heritage, Columbia Basin Trust, the Regional District of East Kootenay, Area C, Blake and Kyla Knull, along with generous support from the businesses and people of Cranbrook, Kimberley, Area C, and beyond.

The March 12 celebration is designed as an open-house style evening with opportunities to connect, enjoy live music, and recognize the partners and community members who helped bring the project to life.

Key City Theatre invites community members, supporters, and anyone who has followed the Give Us A Lift journey to join the celebration.
