KEYSA Rovers U-12 Girls Bronze in Lethbridge
The KEYSA Rovers attended the Lethbridge Chinook Cup over the past weekend. The U-12 Girls won three out of four of their matches and received a bronze medal for their tournament play.
The team played against the Calgary MUSC team in their first match and played a defensive game and had a shutout in that game with a score of 2-0. The second match was against the Calgary WHU HEAT. A great even strength game throughout the first half with a score of 2-2. The second half Calgary WHU Heat caught a lucky opportunity with two minutes left in the game to pull ahead for the victory 3-2. The Rovers played the Lethbridge Tornadoes on Sunday morning to an easy victory placing them into the Bronze Medal Game.
The Bronze Medal game was the most exciting for spectators and the Rovers played against Coaldale Alberta. The first half the Rovers were down 2-1. In the beginning of the second KEYSA Rovers got a game changer tying the score with another quick goal within minutes to take a short lead only to have the favour returned by the Coaldale team. Play continued and both teams scored again moving the score to 4-4. Only minutes left to play with fast action on the field by both teams no one could break the tie. Regulation time ended and the game went to a shoot-out – the first for this young team and they held to true form and successfully won the shoot out.
The Calgary WHU Heat took the Gold Medal and had their toughest battle against the KEYSA U-12 Girls. KEYSA. The Calgary Victory took the Gold and Silver medal round out of the equation for the team.
“We are very proud of how the girls played throughout the weekend” commented their head coach Jason Wheeldon. “They dug in hard against teams that were bigger and pulled some great victories in heavily matched competition play”
