Last outdoor Farmer’s Market Oct. 7 in Rotary Park

The Cranbrook Farmer’s Market will host a Thanksgiving Market – the last outdoor market of the 2017 season – on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

More than 50 vendors will set-up in the midst of Rotary Park, downtown Cranbrook, to sell locally-produced fruits and vegetables, canned-goods, breads, home-made treats, ethically-produced meat and eggs, art, drinks, jewellery, crafts and more. Live blues-style musical entertainment, sponsored by East Kootenay Community Credit Union (EKCCU), will be provided by Band of Brothers on the Rotary Park pavilion from 10 a.m. to noon.

“Our last outdoor farmer’s market of the year, which always takes place Thanksgiving Weekend, is a very exciting, lively and fun event greatly enjoyed by both the vendors and shoppers,” said Livia Lara, Market Manager. “This time of year offers a diverse selection of quality local produce — growers are harvesting and selling both the last of the summer’s prime produce, as well as the fall’s first colourful offerings.”

The last outdoor market will be followed by a special Basin’s Farmers Market in Kimberley’s Platzl on Oct. 14, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., as part of the Evening of Basin Culture and Entertainment.

“The Cranbrook Farmers Market had a successful 2017 outdoor market season, thanks to incredible support from our community, including volunteers, vendors and of course the shoppers who join us every weekend to buy fresh and local,” said Lara. “We also want to acknowledge the City of Cranbrook, the Regional District of East Kootenay and Columbia Basin Trust for their generous support this year, which made it possible for us to enhance market operations.”

As some crops were late this year and there is a growing demand for local fresh fruits and veggies, the Cranbrook Farmer’s Market will launch its indoor market season early on Oct. 21 in the Ktunaxa Gym, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Special Winter Markets will take place on Saturday, Nov. 25, 1 to 9 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 26, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 1114 Baker Street (former Super Value building). The Saturday market will be held in conjunction with JCI Kootenay’s 47th annual Santa Claus Parade, which although traditionally held Friday night, has switched to Saturday for 2017.
