Len Matte exhibit opens March 4
The Len Matte Exhibit opens at the Cranbrook 1401 Gallery March 4.
We encourage everyone to take in this exhibit and start to become familiar with our amazing local artists. Our fall exhibits initially exposed the work of many of our local artists to the community.
However, this is only the second solo exhibit held in the gallery and clearly demonstrates how the work of one artist using the same medium can contrast substantially to another. These paintings are very different from the exhibit of Mike Hepher’s. Different techniques and colour palettes will definitely attract your attention.
Leonard Matte is an artist who recently moved to Creston. Having recently retired from teaching he now has the long-awaited opportunity to fully pursue his passion for painting. The techniques of his recent acrylic paintings are derived from his experience as a watercolourist.
By allowing the paint to flow on a canvas lying flat on a table, as would be done with watercolours, the paint takes its own fluid direction.
Cranbrook Arts is looking forward to two exciting workshops on the same weekend in April.
Mike Hepher will be instructing a Print Workshop and Barb Guillen will be leading a felting workshop where participants will make an entire garment of their choice. Barb’s work can be seen in the shop at 1013 Baker St.
Both workshops take place the weekend of April 9/10 and registration is on our website at cranbrookarts.com. We are also looking forward to Barb’s exhibit in April.
Please check our website regularly for workshops and Clay Time Studio classes. Pottery classes fill up very quickly.
Cranbrook Arts is always looking for more volunteers for either our shop on Baker St or as Gallery hosts at the 1401 Gallery. Contact us at [email protected] or [email protected] if interested.
Lead image: A sample of Leonard Matte’s ‘s acrylic paintings. The first is the most recent piece entitled, John 4:23-24. In the autumn of 2021, Leonard went to the town of Kaslo on Kootenay Lake. There he came across a beautiful church surrounded by warm vibrant colours. It was the perfect inspiration to celebrate a Kootenay autumn. Images submitted
