Local business turning loss into purpose

A Cranbrook business is turning loss into purpose.

A thief recently stole the poppy donation box from COBS Bread (Cranbrook) – a dastardly deed that has inspired the business owner to take positive action.

“Unfortunately, our poppy donation box was stolen from our bakery counter this week — a heartbreaking loss, especially during a time meant to honour those who’ve sacrificed so much. But we believe that light always shines through even the darkest moments, and we know the strength of our community runs deep,” COBS Bread noted on social media.

“In light of this, we’re inviting our community to come together, and turning loss into purpose. Stop by the bakery this weekend to make a donation, and we’ll match every dollar given — up to $2,000 — to ensure that our veterans and their families still feel the love, respect, and gratitude they so deeply deserve.

“Together, let’s turn this act of theft into an even greater act of generosity and remembrance.”

Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 24 offered thanks on social media to the generous business.

“Oh, Wow – This is amazing!  COBS has always been a very generous supporter of the Legion.  Thank you COBS Bread (Cranbrook) for taking an ugly situation and turning it into something beautiful.  You’re generosity and dedication to our community it truly heartfelt,” the Legion stated.
