Man safely arrested after standoff in alley
Cranbrook RCMP this morning (April 3) reported the Southeast District Emergency Response Team has arrested a man following a late night standoff.
On April 2 at approximately 11 p.m., Cranbrook RCMP received a call from a distraught female reporting an assault that occurred in a vehicle.
The caller added the male suspect was in possession of a firearm and she was no longer with him.
RCMP members located the vehicle and the lone male suspect in the 500 block of the alley between 10th and 11th Street South.
Cranbrook RCMP contained the alleyway, notified adjacent residents and began negotiating with the lone male suspect.
RCMP urged the public to avoid the 500 block of 10th and 11th Street South as police worked toward the safe arrest of the male.
“Vehicle traffic in the area has been restored with the exception of one segment of the involved alley as police continue to investigate. Cranbrook RCMP would like to thank the nearby residents and members of the general public for their patience and cooperation as the incident unfolded,” stated S/Sgt. Barry Graham, Cranbrook RCMP Detachment commander.
