Meet a candidate – Jordan Fiorentino

The City of Cranbrook has a vacant council seat and a by-election is being held Saturday, May 11, (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.). Advance polls will be held Wednesday, May 1 and Wednesday, May 8 (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.)

In the lead up to the by-election, e-KNOW invites by-election candidates to submit op-ed pieces/letters to the editor to outline why they are running for council and why you, the voter, should give them your support. We are not otherwise soliciting pieces from candidates. See below for more info on the by-election and how candidates can submit pieces to the editor.

Meet a candidate

Jordan Fiorentino

As the first runner-up in the 2018 Civic Election, I am thrilled to have another opportunity to put my name forward as a candidate for city councillor.

Following the election, I was disappointed that I would not be taking a seat on city council, but grateful for the strong support I received as a first-time candidate. My commitment has not wavered since last October. I am just as dedicated to Cranbrook now as I was then.

I have continued to attend council meetings regularly, and I remain an active member of JCI Kootenay – an organization committed to progress for our community.

I believe that I have the ability and commitment to work toward positive change in Cranbrook. When our city faces challenges, we must seek solutions that can benefit the community as a whole. I believe the youthful perspective that I can bring to council, will be helpful in developing a community that benefits all ages and future generations.

Coming from a five-generation Cranbrook family, I truly care about this city. It is my hope that my children (and their children) will love Cranbrook as much I do and will want to settle here. For my family, and yours, I want to see Cranbrook continue to grow and flourish!

As the largest urban centre in southeast British Columbia – literally surrounded by mountains, forests, lakes, and golf courses – Cranbrook is already an amazing place to work and play, and an ideal city to call home.

I have been employed at Northstar Motors for 15 years. In my current role as Operations Manager, I work in a high-volume, customer-focused environment. I will bring to the citizens of Cranbrook the same principles I apply in my work with customers: trust, transparency and customer satisfaction.

Through my dedication to the Northstar team, I have developed a solid leadership practice that can serve me well on City Council. I am confident that I have the strong fiscal knowledge and problem-solving skills required of an effective councillor.

My deep Cranbrook roots date back to the late 1920s when my great grandfather chose Cranbrook and established a new home for his young family. Now, my wife and I are raising our two young children in Cranbrook. My family story has led me to see ‘the big picture’ and inspired me to step forward and run for council so that I may be given an opportunity to work toward a strong, sustainable Cranbrook.

Whether we are talking about recreation, arts and culture, or business, Cranbrook residents, whatever their age, are city stakeholders and deserve a strong voice on council. I hope you will give me the opportunity to work diligently as your voice.

I ask all of you who voted for me in October to turn out at the polls on May 11 and mark your ballot next to my name one more time. And, for those of you who are looking for a new candidate to support, I sincerely hope you will consider giving me your vote.
