Mixing it Up at Cranbrook Arts

September’s exhibit at the Cranbrook Arts Gallery is a Members’ Mixed Media show.  It is open from September 4 to the 22.

Priyanka Singh’s says in her Beginner’s Guide to Mixed Media Art: “Mixed media art is a term used to describe the bringing together of a multitude (“mix”) of different elements (“media”) in a variety of different ways. So many different art and craft techniques and forms are covered by this title. And then there’s the range on media: Firstly, the ones that come straight to mind; paints, papers, cardboards, pencils, images, glues, crayons and glitter, to name a few. Then there are the more obscure media, like washers and other hardware items, buttons, fibres, bees wax, pages from an old book and the list goes on. When you begin to look around you with your “mixed media mania” everything becomes a potential target for adding into your mixed media art.”

The Gallery at 1013 Baker St. is showing a colourful and varied collection of mixed media pieces from over 20 local artists. From felted coats, felted figures leather belts, paint and print medium you will be sure to find something to wonder at.

Also of importance this month is Cranbrook and District Arts Council Annual General Meeting to be held in the same gallery at 7 p.m. on September 18.  If you are interested in what is going on in the visual arts field or would like to become involved please attend this meeting. It is open to all members of the public.

Come in to find out more about our line-up of fall classes beginning in October. Memberships are due and once a member, you will receive a copy of our monthly newsletter including all class information. Some dates are still being firmed up, some classes already have registrations.
