Old speedway property rezoned for residential

Following a public hearing July 17, City of Cranbrook council passed a series of bylaws that open the door for a residential subdivision on the old Cranbrook International Speedway property.

Bylaws numbered 3901, 3902, 3903, 3905 and 3906 were all unanimously passed, allowing for official community plan and zoning amendments, as well as a road closure and new road dedication for the property located at 2705 Echo Field Road.

There were no comments for or against the plans for the property.

Property owner Brad Scriver noted on Facebook that there is room for 140 new affordable single-family homes in Cranbrook in the near future.

“We hope that our concept for a small home community comprised of mobile homes, modular homes, conventional stick frame homes as well as sea can homes (built to building code and architectural guidelines), will become the model used for future sustainable, small home development,” he said.
