Oliver! opening with a Gala at Key City Theatre

Key City Theatre is ringing in the New Year with style as Oliver!, the beloved musical classic, takes the stage for a dazzling gala opening night.

This production is truly a community celebration, with a cast of more than 40 local performers bringing Dickens’ world to vibrant life.

At the heart of the show are two talented young actors—Marnie Goulding and Lily Yadernuk—who will share the role of Oliver, each bringing their own spark and heart to the role.

Adding to the excitement is the creative leadership of Co-Directors Brenda Burley and Matt Van Boeyen, who bring years of stage experience and a shared passion for storytelling. Their collaboration is shaping Oliver! into an entertaining, dynamic show full of humour, grit, and unforgettable songs.

Audiences can also look forward to a stellar lineup of featured roles: Bob McCue as the wily Fagin, Navy Gross as the cheeky Artful Dodger, Jocelyn Molnar as the fiery Nancy, and Brad McCue and Caitlin McCaughey as Mr. Bumble and Widow Corney. The latter two will be familiar to audiences as Mr. and Mrs. Beineke from The Addams Family, and now return in equally memorable comedic roles.

This year’s production is also remarkable for its sense of community. With 10 family groups making up a significant portion of the cast, the show has become a true family affair. Parents, children, and siblings will step on stage together, echoing the show’s central theme that “found family” is just as powerful as the one you’re born into.

The January musical at Key City Theatre has become one of the most anticipated events of each season, building on the success of past blockbusters like The Addams Family, Cabaret, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Chicago. Oliver! is poised to continue this tradition of bold, large-scale productions that delight audiences and showcase the incredible talent in our community.

Producer and Key City Theatre Executive Director Galen Olstead expressed his enthusiasm: “Oliver! is the kind of production that reminds us why community theatre matters. We have families performing together, kids stepping into the spotlight for the very first time, and seasoned actors sharing their love of the stage. It’s going to be an incredible experience for audiences.”

He added: “This show is full of heart, humour, and songs that will stick with you long after the curtain falls. We couldn’t imagine a better way to bring in the new year than with this spectacular production.”

Rehearsals are already underway following a thrilling first table read, where cast and crew gathered for the first time to dive into the story. That energy is now carrying through the rehearsal hall as the company brings to life beloved numbers like Consider Yourself, Food, Glorious Food, and Where is Love.

Oliver! opens with a Gala performance on December 31, 2025, followed by encore shows on January 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, and 17, 2026.
