Poppy donation box theft suspect turns self in
In early November, Cranbrook RCMP received a report of multiple poppy donation boxes being stolen from local businesses. These incidents understandably caused significant concern and frustration within our community.
Thanks to strong support from the Royal Canadian Legion, business owners and the public, the suspect was quickly identified.
Officers collected and reviewed CCTV footage from multiple locations and gathered witness statements to compile the court package for charges.
While the investigation was still underway, additional businesses came forward reporting similar thefts. All additional surveillance footage and statements were collected and charges forwarded to Crown for approval.
Initial attempts to locate the individual were unsuccessful. However, yesterday the suspect turned themselves in, wearing a “Lest We Forget” bracelet, and admitted to the offences.
The accused was arrested and has been placed on no-go conditions for all affected businesses and will now have to answer for their actions in court.
