Power surge impacts city’s water treatment operation
Monday afternoon’s power surge event in Cranbrook and area created a temporary issue with the City of Cranbrook’s potable water treatment system, causing a fault in the chlorination system for about 15 minutes.
As a result, a small amount of untreated water made it into the system.
Public Works crews have isolated the area where the untreated water flowed and is currently flushing the system with hydrants to remove that untreated water.
It is not expected that this will cause any health concerns, but it is important that we make our customers aware.
Out of an abundance of caution, children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems may wish to use boiled water or another alternative at least for this evening. We appreciate your understanding. Thank you!
