Resident gives heads up on bear in EKRH area

A Cranbrook resident is alerting residents about a bear in the area around East Kootenay Regional Hospital (EKRH) and 23rd Avenue South.

Melissa Thurston contacted e-KNOW with photographs and a message about a bear she spotted at about 10:30 p.m. on October 1.

“The bear was walking up the road, heading towards the firehall when it got spooked by my vehicle. He tried to go through the fence into the golf course but when he couldn’t get through or climb the pole he headed back towards the hospital,” Thurston reported.

RCMP and the BC Conservation Officer Service were contacted immediately.
