Slaterville added to Cranbrook transit route

A new transit service route went into full operation today (Tuesday, Sept. 5) for residents of the City of Cranbrook.

The new BC Transit route will serve residents in Slaterville, Grandview Heights, the Mission Hills mobile home parks and the city’s industrial area.

Service will run Monday to Friday each week, leaving the 12th Avenue South/Baker Street downtown terminal at 7:45 a.m. noon and 5 p.m. each day.

“I want to thank BC Transit for working with the City of Cranbrook to get this much needed addition to our transit system in place,” said Coun. Jim Wavrecan (pictured above). “Special thanks to John Darula, our local transit contractor for working with BC Transit on establishing the new route. This expansion will help create better access, for those living on the west side of our community to shop, get to work or to school. I hope everyone will take an opportunity to utilize this great service.”

“The new Slaterville route provides more residents a viable transportation option,” said Mike Davis, vice president and chief operating officer of BC Transit. “This expansion has allowed us to better serve and respond to the growing needs of our customers in Cranbrook.”

City communications director Chris Zettel noted in a press release that BC Transit provides affordable transportation for residents and visitors.

“When heading to work, out to shop or just to explore the city, consider using the Cranbrook Transit System. It is an affordable, reliable and environmentally responsible option for daily travel in the city,” he noted.
