Suspicious occurrence report leads to stolen vehicle recovery
On January 20, at 6:51 a.m., Cranbrook RCMP received a report of an unlicensed driver operating what was suspected to be a stolen vehicle in the 200 block of 16th Ave N, Cranbrook.
Initial patrols were unsuccessful, but a second report led to the arrest of a 27-year-old Cranbrook resident.
Further investigation revealed the involved vehicle had been stolen from a dealership overnight and sustained damage after colliding with another vehicle in the showroom during the theft.
On January 22, Tyler Eugene Long of Cranbrook was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, breach of a probation order, break and enter, mischief over $5,000, and theft of a motor vehicle. Long remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
“It isn’t every day our team is able to recover a stolen vehicle and solve a break and enter before the owner is even aware,” stated S/Sgt Barry Graham.
“Cranbrook RCMP appreciate the calls from the public on this and encourage others to do the same when they observe suspicious activity.”
