Time lapse video of Idlewild rehab work released

Over the course of the late summer and fall, the City of Cranbrook live streamed the construction activities at Idlewild Lake as part of the dam rehabilitation work to both the dam and the spillway.

As that phase of construction is nearing completion, city staff has put together a time lapse video of the construction work for the public to watch.

That video is available online.

The vast majority of the dam rehabilitation work is complete, with a few minor items that will wait until the spring to inspect and wrap up. The contractor is proceeding with the commissioning process, which means the spillway components are operational and the reservoir is slowly filling up over the next days and weeks.

While the majority of the park is now open and safe for the public, there is some work that will be happening in the dam and spillway areas that the public needs to be aware of. The city asks that all park visitors continue to respect all signs and barricades.

Meantime, the first phase of the recreational improvements will begin this spring with a variety of enhancements including: construction of new washrooms, a new family picnic pavilion, playground replacement, new fishing docks/piers and trail upgrades to make them more accessible. The project is supported with the financial support of the Federal Gas Tax Fund – Strategic Priorities Fund and the Regional District of the East Kootenay.
