Victoria Avenue traffic pattern changing again

The traffic pattern along Victoria Avenue will change as early as Monday, September 15 due to ongoing Phase 1 reconstruction of the Victoria Avenue Sanitary Sewer Trunk.

Traffic flows will still be reduced to a single lane in each direction; however, drivers will now use the two easternmost lanes for travel. All motorists are asked to slow down and follow any signage in the construction zone for the safety of motorists and the roadside workers.

If possible, the city encourages drivers to continue to avoid this area, to help mitigate traffic congestion, reduce volume for the smooth flow of emergency vehicles, and to ensure a safe worksite for crews at the site.

Please remember that the intersection of Victoria Avenue and 2nd Street North remains a temporary four-way stop. The intersection will return to its usual signalized operation soon.

The project contractor, Copcan Civil LP, is overseeing this significant infrastructure upgrade which includes replacing the sanitary sewer trunk main between 2nd Street North and 6th Street North to address existing capacity concerns.

The project will also include upgrades to watermains and full width paving along this section of Victoria Avenue, and is expected to wrap up by late October.

The City of Cranbrook gratefully acknowledges the financial contributions of the Canada Community Building Fund (formerly the Gas Tax Fund) toward this important infrastructure project.
