Weekly update with Cranbrook RCMP
Cranbrook RCMP responded to 209 calls for service over the past week.
Of the 209 calls, 29 were mental health/check well being calls, 15 suspicious person files and 26 mischief/disturbance calls. RCMP also responded to 30 traffic related files, 14 theft calls and five incidents of fraud.
CRA fraud calls on the rise
“It’s tax season so we have seen a rise in people receiving phone calls from someone saying they are from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) saying there are warrants out for people’s arrest and they have to pay by credit card or pre-paid gift cards over the phone,” reported Cst Katie Forgeron.
“The CRA will never ask you to pay with your credit card or any gift cards over the phone”. Hang up and report the attempted fraud to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre on their website at: www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca
