Weekly update with Cranbrook RCMP

Cranbrook RCMP responded to 251 calls for service over the past week.

Of the 251 calls, 34 were mental health/check well being calls, 27 suspicious person files and 27 mischief/disturbance calls.

Thefts were down this past week with only 10 being reported to police.

There were 38 traffic related calls. Cranbrook investigated ten assaults. RCMP also responded to 15 false alarms.

Six frauds were reported to the Cranbrook RCMP including two reports of fraud from Apple computer users. RCMP was advised that persons received an alert on their Apple computers advising that there had been a security breach and to contact “Apple” through a number provided.

“The persons who answered asked the victims to send money either by holding up a check to the camera so they could take a photo of it or being granted remote access by the owners and the suspect logging in to their banking information,” said  Cst. Katie Forgeron.

“We are asking people to be more mindful when sending money, gift cards, or allowing someone remote access to their computers. Double and triple check that the person you are dealing with is a legitimate company representative.”
