Welcome to Cranbrook and the East Kootenay!

A new era has officially begun for the Kootenay ICE.

The Kootenay ICE’s new logo for the 2017/18 WHL season.

Less than a week after the Western Hockey League (WHL) Board of Governors unanimously voted to approve the transfer of the Kootenay ICE ownership from the Chynoweth family to Greg Fettes and Matt Cockell, a new, fresher logo has been unveiled and new jerseys and colours are on the way.

Winnipeg entrepreneur Fettes and hockey executive Cockell, who is moving his family to the Key City to run the up-and-coming club, held a small meet and greet with city officials, business leaders and media Tuesday evening (May 2).

A light-hearted, relieved mood prevailed in the Heritage Inn conference room where the new ownership expressed excitement about being in town and hopes for creating a new, closer relationship with East Kootenay hockey fans and communities.

Rejoice hockey fans! WHL hockey is once again secure in Cranbrook and the East Kootenay, with ownership that wishes to see the team thrive and embrace the community.
