Western Financial Place still closed after ammonia leak
Western Financial Place remains closed Wednesday afternoon as facility technicians and fire department staff work through the process of reopening the facility after this morning’s ammonia leak.
Upon alert of the facility’s ammonia detection system this morning, facility staff evacuated the building. Staff relied on their training and followed the proper procedures in place for these kinds of events. The fire department was notified and remains on site to assist staff with the evacuation and to provide support for the incident, the City of Cranbrook reported.
Staff is currently working to identify the cause, and a refrigeration contractor is en route to assist in reopening the facility.
“The safety of the public and staff is our primary concern, and the city is working hard to open Western Financial place as soon as possible. While there is no threat to public safety at this time, the facility and the parking lots have been closed to the public while we work through our procedures to reopen the facility,” the city stated.
