Woman arrested for Monday assault
On August 29 at approximately 1:30 a.m., Cranbrook RCMP was called to the downtown Cranbrook area for a complaint of a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner.
The vehicle had struck a light post and a parking barrier. RCMP members located and stopped the vehicle. An injured female driver was subsequently identified as the victim of an assault minutes earlier in same general area. The female was transported to the East Kootenay Regional Hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries.
Initially, four persons were taken into custody and all have since been released without charge. Through further investigation and with assistance from the public, police were able to identify the person believed to be responsible for the assault. A charge of Assault Causing Bodily Harm was laid and an arrest warrant was issued for a 27-year-old female resident of the Cranbrook area. On August 31, the female suspect was taken into custody without incident and will be appearing in Cranbrook Provincial Court on September 1.
The victim of the assault has since been released from hospital and is recovering from her injuries. Anyone with further information about this investigation is urged to contact the Cranbrook RCMP (250-489- 3471) or Crimestoppers at 1-800- 222-8477 (TIPS).
