A new planning process is underway to identify needed updates to zoning and land use bylaw regulations regarding Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) in the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK).

Both in-person and Zoom meetings are scheduled, with one already held at Elkford on Oct. 11.

This planning process is an opportunity to define ADU types, sizes, location, servicing, and maximum numbers on properties within the RDEK zoning bylaws, and public engagement is a critical part of the process.

Your input is important and will help shape ADUs in your community into the future. Online and in-person open houses are scheduled across the RDEK so that residents and property owners can work together with RDEK staff to identify potential land use and zoning bylaw amendments related to ADUs. We hope to see you there!

Zoom meetings for all areas will be held: Oct. 23 (7 – 9 p.m.) and Dec. 1 (7 – 9 p.m.).

• Oct 15 from 4 – 6 p.m. at Hosmer Community Hall.
• Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Baynes Lake Community Hall.

Electoral Area C

• Oct. 25 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Moyie Community Hall.
• Oct. 27 from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Cranbrook Senior Citizens Hall.

Electoral Area E

• Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and Nov. 27 from 4 – 6 p.m. at Wasa Community Hall.

Electoral Area F

• Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Columbia Valley Chamber of Commerce Lions Hall.
• Nov. 25 from 4 – 6 p.m. at Fairmont & District Lions Club – Lion’s Den.

Electoral Area G

• Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and Nov 29 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Edgewater Community Hall.

In addition to the engagement sessions, there will be an online survey opening soon at engage.rdek.bc.ca/housing that will run through December 1.

A paper or digital copy of the survey can also be sent to you upon request once the survey is open.
