Alcohol suspected in crash near Irishmen Creek

Cranbrook RCMP suspect alcohol was a factor in a crash between a Suzuki SUV and a pickup truck around 5:30 p.m. last night.

Cranbrook RCMP was called to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 3/95 near the Irishmen Creek rest stop south of town.

Investigation revealed that the Suzuki pulled out to do a u-turn in front of a pickup truck travelling southbound.

The driver of the pickup truck attempted to avoid the vehicle but clipped the front left of the vehicle. The pickup truck left the highway and flipped, coming to a rest near the railroad tracks.

The driver of the Suzuki remained inside his vehicle until he could be removed by fire and rescue. During this time RCMP noted signs of alcohol impairment from the driver.

“RCMP conducted an impaired investigation and samples were taken from the 67-year-old driver of the Suzuki. A traffic analyst also attended the location. The investigation is ongoing,” reported Cst. Katie Forgeron of Cranbrook RCMP.

Both drivers were taken to hospital with what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
