“When people stay alert, informed, and proactive about protecting their information, they set themselves up for a worry-free year.”

BBB’s top resolutions for consumers in 2026 for a fraud-free year:

  1. Research before you buy.Check BBB.org for reviews, always verify seller contact information and ensure websites are secure.
  2. Protect your money. Never send money to strangers or make rushed payments. Avoid wire transfers, gift cards or cryptocurrency for purchases.
  3. Stay alert on too good to be true offers.Unbelievable deals are a common scam tactic. Slow down and double check before clicking.
  4. Monitor your accounts regularly.Review your bank and credit accounts to catch unauthorized transactions early.
  5. Strengthen your digital security.Be mindful of what you share online and use strong, unique passwords for each account.
  6. Guard your personal information.Do not share financial or identifying information with unexpected calls, emails or text messages,
