BC Fairs launches photo contest with Buy BC
Fairgoers in British Columbia can have some extra fun at B.C. fairs this summer through a new photo contest that celebrates the province’s agricultural sector and Buy BC.
The British Columbia Association of Agricultural Fairs and Exhibitions (BC Fairs) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries’ Buy BC program are encouraging visitors attending fairs and exhibitions to enter the photo contest, which runs from Aug. 2 to Sept. 26.
“A fun-filled family day at one of the province’s fairs and exhibitions is a perfect opportunity to support local farms and the food they produce,” said Lana Popham, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries. “The Buy BC photo contest will help capture and share the amazing local products that visitors can find at B.C. fairs this season, celebrating all the local goodies grown and made by the province’s farmers, producers and processors.”
“We are thrilled to once again be working with Buy BC to highlight the amazing variety of products grown and made right here at home,” said Karen Streeter, board president, BC Fairs. “Buying local became a hallmark message during the pandemic, and this contest is a great way to keep that message going and growing.”
Participants can enter by downloading the new BC Fairs app and following the steps to upload a picture. Selfies are encouraged, as well as pictures of any made-in-B.C. food or beverage product, or a B.C. fair or farm. Entries can also be submitted at: bcfairs.ca
There are weekly prizes to be won by random selection. A grand prize winner will be drawn from the weekly winners at the end of September.
The province’s Buy BC program encourages British Columbians to enjoy a wide range of B.C grown, harvested and produced food and beverage products from local stores.
Photos could include B.C. farms, fairs and agritourism businesses, as well as shots of produce, dairy, meats and seafood, or B.C. wines, beer, cider and spirits.
