PetSmart Charities is making an impact on cat overpopulation!

We are happy to announce that the East Kootenay Branch has been able to help out with spaying and neutering 400 cats and kittens within Cranbrook since we received out PetSmart Charities Grant! It has made a difference but we have a long ways to go. In the last few days our shelter has have taken in over 20 homeless kittens and we have a waiting list of 20 to come in. If you are looking for a new fur baby please consider adopting.  If you are getting a “free” cat or kitten please come in and get a voucher. If you or someone you know has cats or kittens that need to be spayed or neutered please come and see us. We are here to help!

Protecting Animals for Abuse

The BC SPCA is the only animal welfare organization with the mandate and authority to respond to complaints of animal cruelty in B.C. Our special constables work closely with pet guardians to provide information and guidance on the humane and responsible treatment of animals, and, thankfully, most of the complaints we receive are resolved through education and support. However, if individuals do not take steps to immediately relieve the distress of their animals, our special provincial constables execute warrants to remove animals from dangerous or neglectful situations and prepare reports for Crown Counsel recommending formal charges of animal cruelty.  All of our cruelty investigations coasts are paid through the generosity of our donors.

The creation of our provincial call centre and animal abuse hotline in March 2013 has led to a significant increase in individuals reporting cases of suspected animal cruelty and neglect across the province.  To report animal cruelty please call the hotline at 1-855-622-7722.

10 Minutes to Disaster!

Dogs (and cats) cool themselves by panting and by releasing heat through their paws. On summer days the air and upholstery in your vehicle can heat up to high temperatures that make it impossible for pets to cool themselves. The risk is real! If it is 26C outside, inside a car, even with the windows cracked, the temperature can reach 37C in 10 minutes and 43C in 20 minutes.  If your dog’s temperature reaches 41C cell and organ damage begins to occur.  Please leave your animals at home when running out to do errands. If you do spot a dog or any animal in a car on a hot day please call the BCSPCA hotline at 1-855-622-7722 or the local RCMP immediately.

Gail and Richard pick up, sort and deliver cans and bottles for recycling.  If you want to

donate, please drop off your refundable at the shelter or call Gail and Richard at 250-489-2450 and they will pick up from your home or place of business.
