Cat adoption fees now half off at BC SPCA

June is National Adopt-a-Cat month. Spring and summertime are the peak of kitten season with some of those kittens finding their way into the BC SPCA’s care.

Adopt-a-Cat month is a good reminder of all the cats waiting for their forever home in BC SPCA animal centres across the province and a good time to consider a cat when thinking about adding a pet to the family.

To highlight this month, the BC SPCA is offering 50% off all cat adoption fees Thursday, June 22 through Sunday, June 25 in all its locations, proudly sponsored by our friends at Hill’s Pet Nutrition.

“Cats come into the BC SPCA’s care for a number of reasons,” said Adrienne McBride, the BC SPCA’s senior director for Community Animal Centres.

“Some are strays, some are surrendered because their guardians are moving to homes where pets aren’t allowed, or they just aren’t able to care for them. Cats are also seized by our Animal Protection Officers.”

The goal of the BC SPCA, says McBride, is to care for these animals in either a BC SPCA animal centre or in a foster home and to work to find each cat a forever home.

“Many people aren’t aware of just how affectionate and loving a cat can be,” said McBride. “They are often a great companion to other animals in the home as long as the proper introductions are made.”

McBride says countless studies have been done that highlight the many ways that pets, like cats, can improve our mental and physical health. “We really saw during the pandemic how people turned to animals to help them cope with the social isolation that COVID brought,” she said. “Pets can be such a gift in our lives. We believe that there is a perfect match out there for every animal.”
