Do the sensible thing and reject this application
Letter to the Editor
To whom it may concern regarding, the proposed solar farm, to be located on Sheep Creek Flats, Skookumchuck Prairie, Woods’ Corner/LD Ranch Road.
The proposed use of 12,000 plus acres (4,981 ha or 49.8 km2) is 56% (17.8 km2) larger than the footprint of the City of Cranbrook, which is 32 km2.
I definitely oppose the provincial government granting such a tenure or an application to investigate solar farms to be located on this natural pristine landscape that provides invaluable and irreplaceable habitat here in the EK. This land should not be destroyed for corporate profit. I repeat this is not property that has no value… it is home to the residents of this area along with the wildlife as well. Let’s keep that way, in its natural state.
Further to this as a former resident of TaTa Creek, albeit a number of years ago, I feel this is one of the most asinine applications to be presented to government in quite some time.
Would you as MLAs, or the Premier of B.C., like to see the landscape near your residence turned into a solar farm when there is lack of useable land? Not likely, nor would I or the residents in the this area as well as the entire East Kootenay.
Surely there are other locations that are not impinging on human and animal habitat. We have two mountain ranges on both sides of this valley and I ask, what land will the ungulates be squeezed into? The size of the land projected to be used emphasizes this point.
I ask you to think long and hard about the irreversible scenario that u would be creating by allowing this to become a reality. So, do the sensible thing… reject the application.
The great thing about living in B.C. is that we have elections to decide on the who the governing body will be to govern B.C. Dumb decisions result in changes in government.
I supported the ND under Premier John Horgan. Would I support provincial, local governments if this application is approved. Definitely not!
In closing I say to local MLAs, the NDP government… and all involved in this process: Think about this proposal and the resulting consequences before approving it. Do not approve a project that encompasses such a large area and will change the land and ecosystem forever in a very negative way.
