Estleman stands out like a peacock at a pig’s picnic

Book Review

Estleman, Loren D. (1989).  Silent Thunder.

In today’s world of woke, political correctness and just playing soft and nice with the people who have money and power, writers such as Loren D. Estleman stand out like a peacock at a pig’s picnic.  His approach and language are direct descendants of Raymond Chandler – hard-boiled, straight and morally honest.

‘Silent Thunder’ is a well-told tale of crooked politicians, military figures who want to rule the world and lesser criminals who feed the machine.  The author employs humour and common sense to turn the powerful degenerates to fools and let the common man, Amos Walker,  win through with integrity and forceful moral belief.

Walker is no pussycat. He hunts those who shoot tigers and have lifetime memberships in the NRA.  With the current mob rule in America and the ICE-licensed terrorists stalking anyone not conforming, Estleman brings the decaying Detroit of the 1980s up to time.  There are non-stop thrills and suspense, Walker temporarily wins the lady, and nuclear disarmament (of a sort) is achieved.

In today’s soaring language of compromise and historical revisionism, Loren D. Estleman shines through.  We need an Amos Walker meets Donald Trump story from this author.
