Expect a cold, snowy winter: Farmer’s Almanac

The Farmer’s Almanac is predicting a colder and snowier than normal winter for southern British Columbia, including the East Kootenay.

2017 can Farmers Almanac“Winter will be colder than normal, with above-normal precipitation and snowfall. The coldest periods will be in early and mid-to-late December and mid-to-late January, with the snowiest periods in early and mid-December and mid-January,” the 2017 Farmer’s Almanac states.

This good news for winter sports enthusiasts will be followed by more good news as spring and summer 2017 sound peachy, according to the Farmer’s Almanac.

“April and May will have near-normal temperatures and below-normal precipitation. Summer will be warmer than normal, with the hottest periods in late June, late July, and early August. Rainfall will be near normal in the east and above normal in the west. September and October will be cooler and slightly rainier than normal,” it predicts.

As for what we can expect in the next few months, the Almanac notes the first two weeks of September will be fair and sunny, with some unsettled conditions expected for the last half of the month, especially on the West Coast.

The first week of October also should be quite nice, though perhaps a bit chillier than normal.
