Expect continued winter driving conditions

Weather for the New Year’s weekend looks like periodic flurries until Saturday afternoon, with three to five cm accumulation in most parts of the region.
Temperatures are then expected to drop into the -12C to -15C with even colder temperatures at night for the next few days. Little precipitation is expected during this time, but watch for rapidly forming black ice, particularly in shady areas.
Mainroad East Kootenay crews will be out throughout the holiday weekend, and as temperatures will be below -9C expect compact snow and winter driving conditions.

Limited visibility due to blowing snow is also a possibility. There is a lot of wildlife moving in the area at this time so motorists should be on the lookout.
Traffic is expected to be busy on ski hill routes, and remember that school gets back in after the weekend so watch for school busses and increased traffic.
