Fernie and Kimberley stick in KIJHL Power Rankings
The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) is pleased to announce its Power Rankings for Week 14.
The Kamloops Storm defeated the Chase Heat 4-1 in their lone game last Tuesday. Joshua Nuttall turned aside 26 shots and Hayden Selin scored his 12th goal for the win. The Storm are now 13-0-0-1 in their last 14 games and first overall in the KIJHL at 21-4-1-1.
The Revelstoke Grizzlies did not play last week. They are sixth overall in the league with a record of 18-4-0-2.
The Fernie Ghostriders won their lone game earning a 2-1 win over the Columbia Valley Rockies. In his 100th KIJHL game, Ben Skarsen (17) scored the winner and Kael Svenson stopped 20 of 21 shots. The Ghostriders are eighth overall at 14-9-3-2.
The Beaver Valley Nitehawks earned back-to-back wins against the Castlegar Rebels – 4-2 and 4-3. In the first game on Dec. 19, the Nitehawks erased a 2-0 deficit and won on Jonas Bourchier’s goal. Landan Uzeloc had a 32-save performance and Ty Noseworthy scored twice. On Dec. 20, Ryan Neufeld scored the winner and Karsten Hugenholtz made 23 saves to earn his fourth straight win. The Nitehawks scored two short-handed goals and are now second in the league with seven. They are fifth overall in the league with a 20-6-0 record.
The Kimberley Dynamiters split their games heading into the holiday break. They lost 3-1 to the Golden Rockets. Talan Pappas scored his first KIJHL goal and Adam Kisilevich stopped 18 of 21 shots. They rebounded with a 9-2 win over the Rockies. The Dynamiters led 4-0 after the first period with Jaden Rusznak’s 12th goal proving to be the eventual winner. Connor Baumbach made 26 saves with Rusznak and Luke Davies each having four-point nights. The Dynamiters are second overall in the league at 20-5-2-1.
