The Regional District of East Kootenay reports the wood waste area of the Wasa Transfer Station is closed until further notice due to several small, isolated fires within the immediate area.

The fires are currently mostly smouldering and there is no risk of further spread; however, smoke may be visible in the immediate area. Staff are on site.

The rest of the transfer station remains open for regular use – it is just the wood waste area that is closed until further notice.
