First snowfall arrives

Residents in parts of the East Kootenay awoke to a layer of white stuff covering their world this morning, Monday, Oct. 10.
However, a quick gander at DriveBC shows the region’s highways to be mostly wet but clear of snow or ice, surely welcome news for those driving home today after Thanksgiving weekend visits. However, as the lead image above shows, snow is sticking to the highway between Fernie and Sparwood. It is the only image from DriveBC cameras showing snow on the road.

Environment Canada reports from its three East Kootenay stations (Cranbrook, Invermere and Sparwood) that snow has fallen and rain is expected throughout the day.
In the Elk Valley there is a 40% chance of flurries this evening, with two to four centimetres anticipated. Temperatures are expected to be in the -5 C range, with clearing anticipated for tomorrow morning.
