Food and beverage bandit arrested

Over the past few weeks Cranbrook and Kimberley RCMP received several reports of a person enjoying a meal at one of the local restaurants leaving without paying. The subject was arrested Thursday, Jan. 12 and will be appearing in court in March.

The subject ate meals at three restaurants in Kimberley and two in Cranbrook but departed without paying, racking up several hundred dollars in unpaid meals. From witnesses and video surveillance police were able to identify the male, who also had an outstanding warrant of arrest.

“A sharp-eyed officer in Cranbrook spotted him Thursday morning and was able to make an arrest. Police will be recommending up to seven charges of ‘Obtain Food by Fraud,’” reported Sgt. Chris Newel, Kimberley RCMP Detachment Commander.
