FortisBC resuming line work in East Kootenay

FortisBC today issued an Information Bulletin providing a brief overview of construction on the Inland Gas Upgrades (IGU) Project for 2024, as well as some socio-economic information from the past year.

This year is the fifth and anticipated final year of construction on the project, which includes continuing work on lines in Kimberley, Sparwood and Cranbrook areas.

In 2023, the IGU Project contracted $11.3 million worth of goods and services from 150 provincial vendors.

More than $1.6 million of the project’s local expenditure was to communities in the East Kootenay (including Cranbrook, Fort Steele, Invermere, and Kimberley), Fortis noted.

More than 52% of the project’s local spend was to Indigenous-owned or affiliated vendors.

The IGU Project reported $65K in local community investments in 2023, including $8.5K to organizations based in the East Kootenay, Fortis reported.
