Freemasons place Fort Steele marker
On June 17, members of Cranbrook Masonic Lodge #34 placed a marker at the site of the historic lodge hall in Fort Steele Heritage Town.
The lodge there was established in 1899 and was the first Masonic Lodge in this area.
It was merged with Cranbrook Lodge #34 in 1944.
The markers are part of the 150-year anniversary project of the Grand Lodge of BC & Yukon to commemorate sites of historic importance to Freemasonry in this province.
The lodge hall at Fort Steele has been beautifully restored and is well worth a visit.
Pictured above and right officiating at the dedication is RW Brother Jerry Hatala, District Deputy Grand Master and Jessica Van Oostward, Curator, Fort Steele and members of Cranbrook Lodge in attendance.
