Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting is alerting motorists to the development of a freezing rain storm in the region.

“Mainroad crews are out salting but all area roads should be considered slippery and driven at a reduced speed with extreme caution.  An un-forecasted rain event has deposited a film of ice on snow covered and bare roads area wide. Mainroad crews are working as quickly as possible to deal with extreme winter conditions,” the highways contractor stated in a warning this morning (Jan. 9).

Additionally, there was a collision on Highway 3 earlier this morning, about 500 metres east of the junction of Highway 93 near Elko.

DriveBC reports winter driving conditions region-wide, with black ice and sections of fog.

Please check www.drivebc.ca before heading out and if possible put off any travel for a couple of hours.
