Heavy snowfall possible in some areas: Mainroad
Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting Ltd. is alerting drivers to a winter weather event that is anticipated to impact the East Kootenay within the next 24 hours.
“Snowfall has already started in some areas, which we expect to continue to the start of the weekend. Mainroad’s meteorological service predicts that the weather system will move through the south regions of the service area first. The event will be unsettled throughout the East Kootenay, with some areas receiving light accumulations around six cm, and other areas receiving heavy snowfall up to 20cm or more,” Mainroad stated in a stakeholder update.
“We expect an end to the snowfall before Saturday morning and a return to clear, very cold conditions next week. All motorists are encouraged to prepare for winter conditions and limit unnecessary trips. If driving is necessary, allow more travel time and drive with extra caution,” Mainroad said.
“During and after the event, our crews will apply anti-icing chemicals and/or winter abrasive, and commence snow removal operations as required. This will continue on all highways until the event passes and roadways are returned to the acceptable standard and back to normal.”
