Highway 93/95 closed by fire – again
UPDATE: Highway 93/95 closed in both directions – Closed in both directions at Canal Flats to the south end of Farstad Way because of forest/grass fire. Updated on Sunday, July 30 at 7:19 p.m.
DriveBC is reporting that a grass fire forced the closure of Highway 93/95 between Canal Flats and Skookumchuck. The fire was started when a tree fell and hit a power pole.
The BC Wildfire Service reports the fire only as ‘new’ and is located about half way between Canal Flats and Skookumchuck.
The Southeast Fire Centre has helicopters working on the fire as well as an initial attack crew. A second initial attack crew and officer are en route. Currently the fire is burning east and firefighters hope the terrain will help.
