Highways contractor warns of incoming snow
Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting Ltd. is alerting drivers to a weather event anticipated to impact the East Kootenay within the next 48 hours.
“We are expecting flurries overnight and snow developing from south to nNorth. This event may last for several days in some areas,” Mainroad noted.
Mainroad’s meteorological service predicts total snow accumulation up to about five cm by the end of this coming weekend and possibly 15 cm total accumulation over the next week.
Local conditions may vary within the region.
“Our crews will be proactively treating local highways with anti-icing chemicals prior to the weather event. During the weather event, we will continue applying anti-icing chemicals and/or winter abrasive, and commence snow removal operations as required. This will continue on all highways until the event passes and roadways are returned to the acceptable standard and back to normal,” Mainroad said.
Motorists are reminded to drive to the conditions, watch your speed, and before heading out, please visit www.drivebc.ca.
