Highways contractor warns of snow accumulation

Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting Ltd. is advising that a weather event is anticipated to impact the East Kootenay within the next 48 hours.

Mainroad’s meteorological service predicts snow accumulation developing overnight Friday night and into Saturday (Jan. 19).

In addition, warming temperatures may cause slushy conditions on the roadways. Local conditions may vary.

“During the weather event, we will continue applying anti-icing chemicals and/or winter abrasive, and commence snow removal operations as required. This will continue on all highways until the event passes and roadways are returned to the acceptable standard and back to normal,” Mainroad noted in its alert.

“Our 24-hour communications and dispatch office will pass on your observations and concerns to our crews when contacted. As always, a reminder to motorists to please drive to the conditions – slow down and plan some extra time to reach your destination.  Visitwww.drivebc.ca for the latest road conditions in your local area.”
