Holiday Train brings Barenaked Ladies and support

By Andrew Mayes

On December 14, the CPKC (Canadian Pacific Kansas City) Holiday Train brought its rolling holiday cheer to the East Kootenay with stops in Sparwood, Fernie, Jaffray and Cranbrook.

Barenaked Ladies’ Ed Robertson.

Julie Rose, Executive Director of the Cranbrook Food Band Society, took the stage to accept a cheque for $10,000 from CPKC alongside other dignitaries.

She said that the record setting 1,800 pounds of food collected in Cranbrook at the event was proof that, “The community keeps showing up for our neighbours in need.”

The Barenaked Ladies entertained an overflowing crowd that packed both sides of Van Horne Street.

They performed a short set featuring hits such as One Week and If I Had A Million Dollars, as well as some covers of holiday classics.

The Holiday Train parked in the siding at Jaffray.
